Badge Work at St Andrew’s Church Girls’ Brigade!
An important part of our Brigade evening is the Brigade Badge Work. This is a time when the girls learn about various areas of worship and this takes many forms. The badge work is designed to be thought provoking and can result in many lively discussions! At the moment, the Y Team members are learning sign language and are enjoying it very much. In fact they are learning a song which they will sing and sign to members of our congregation at a Brigade Parade service. The badge work also uses the girls creative skills. They enjoy making things and we try to use a wide variety of handicrafts that are suitable for all age groups. We use drama as a tool to express ourselves using scripture stories and other suitable children stories which we adapt as needed and we plan for many exciting projects throughout the Brigade year. The girls can always look forward to a fun-packed calendar.
The Brigade participates in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and we are proud to say that we have several Gold Award Holders who now are involved in instructing our young senior members (14 years+) who are currently undertaking the bronze level. They have already completed their expedition, physical recreation and skills sections of this award and are shortly to commence the service section. They have decided to do a Fire Service course which is being conducted by a local Fire Fighter. Once the service section is completed they will have then finished their bronze award and will be presented with their certificates. The next stage then will be to start their silver award early 2008.
